Description

DDO-004, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1959 proof Washington quarter with strong spread to the south on several obverse elements. Both catalogs list it as Cherrypickers FS-101 (Wexler: FS-25-1959-101). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a very strong southward spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date and the lower ribbon. On the obverse a short diagonal scratch lies on the cheek, east of the base of the nose; on the reverse a small gouge (dot) sits on the lower wing feathers just right of the base of the eagle's left leg. CONECA lists the die as 4-O-IV+VIII, and John A. Wexler submitted it. VarietyVista, crediting Bill Fivaz, describes strong southward spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date and the tip of the ribbon. Under UVC-0936 and DMR-007, stage A has both sides in an early die state and stage B both sides in a middle state; a late stage C has not been confirmed.
