1959 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005

Description

1959 WDDR-005 is a doubled die reverse on the 1959 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center shows on ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the designer's initials and, slightly, E PLURIBUS UNUM, with the strongest spread on the lower half of the reverse. Obverse, Stage A: a scratch goes NNW from the right side of the first 9 near its top, and short scratches go NE off the nose, near its top. Stage B: a horizontal scratch lies under the 9 in the date, and E/W scratches sit left of the bust. Stage C matches Stage B. Reverse, Stage A: a small gouge inside the lower part of the E in CENT, and many E/W scratches across the reverse. Stage B: a strong SW/NE scratch above the left cornice. Stage C: a gouge inside the lower N of ONE, and another at the rim left of the O in ONE. John A. Wexler submitted Stage A, and Frank Baumann submitted Stage B and Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references.
