1959 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

1959 WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1959 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center shows on ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the designer's initials, and E PLURIBUS UNUM looks thicker than normal. Obverse, Stage A: a small gouge (dot) lies right of the upper part of the second T in TRUST. Stage B: a die chip sits on the upper right of the 1 in the date. On the reverse, Stage A has a short vertical gouge in UNITED, low between the E and D. One crack crosses the top of the C in CENT and continues into the open field before the E; another heads SW off the Memorial's lower left; and a third runs down the last column and then up along the edge of the right cornice. Stage B: from the C in AMERICA, a gouge runs north off its upper right, and a die chip sits outside the O in ONE at its lower left. Submitters: Delma K. Romines (Stage A) and Frank Baumann (Stage B).
