1959 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1959 WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1959 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close spread toward the center shows on ONE CENT and on the designer's initials. Obverse, Stage A: starting at the T in LIBERTY (its top left), a scratch runs SW and carries on through the R at its lower right side, and many other scratches, mostly SSW/NNE, appear all over the obverse. Stage B: several scratches lead away SE from the lips and chin. On the reverse, Stage A has a SSW/NNE scratch across the top half of bay one, and a strong SSW/NNE scratch sits on the lower left of the right Memorial base; Wexler notes this second scratch shows on every stage of the variety. Many other scratches cover the reverse. By Stage B, most Stage A scratches have weakened but can still be seen. Submitters: James C. Moreland (Stage A) and Gene Nichols (Stage B).
