1959-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-010
ErrorDescription
Cataloged as WDDO-010 by the Wexler Team, this 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent presents the doubled eyelid below the normal one that characterizes many Denver-mint varieties of the date. Attribution relies on a vertical die scratch to the left of the back of the neck on the obverse. The reverse offers two markers: a die scratch curving southwest from the lower left of the first Memorial column and a strong vertical die scratch to the right of the right cornice. The reverse die scratches are notably bold, making them useful as preliminary screening tools before examining the more delicate eyelid area. Within the extensive 1959-D doubled eyelid series, WDDO-010 occupies a solid middle position—neither the most dramatic doubling nor the subtlest, but well-documented and consistently attributable through its die markers.
