1959-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002
ErrorDescription
Rather than affecting the legends, WDDO-002 from the 1959-D Lincoln cent manifests as an extra eyelid visible just below the normal eyelid—a hallmark of Class V pivoted hub doubling on Lincoln's portrait. Cataloged by the Wexler Team, this variety rewards careful examination of Lincoln's eye area under magnification. Light die scratches running throughout the obverse in a circular pattern provide a distinctive authentication signature. On the reverse, a short die scratch runs northwest to southeast on the left base of the Memorial, and a short vertical die scratch appears to the left of the bottom of the first Memorial column. The doubled eyelid varieties of 1959-D cents form a well-documented cluster, and WDDO-002 is distinguished from its siblings by this unique combination of circular obverse die scratches and specific reverse markers.
