Description

Light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, and the ribbon end characterizes this 1957 Philadelphia Mint Washington Quarter, cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-0893, DMR-007. Three die stages document the progression: Stage A shows reverse at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B reaches MDS on the obverse, with a minor doubled die reverse also present showing splits in both stems at MDS; Stage C brings both obverse and reverse to LDS. The presence of a minor DDR on the same die pair adds a secondary attribution to this variety, making it a combination DDO/DDR die marriage. The dual doubling — light spread on the obverse legends and split stems on the reverse — rewards examination of both sides under magnification. Washington Quarter doubled die obverses from the 1950s represent the later years of the original John Flanagan design before the transition to clad composition in 1965, and collectors of pre-clad silver quarters actively pursue attributed varieties from this era.
