1957 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1957 WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1957 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. Strong extra thickness appears on the lower leaves and branches and on the letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and QUARTER DOLLAR. On the obverse, under the B of LIBERTY, scratches extend NE off the head's top, a short scratch heads SE off the Y of LIBERTY from its lower right, and a west-to-east crack crosses the forehead at its top. On the reverse, left of the E in QUARTER there is a short vertical gouge, the D in DOLLAR has a small gouge at its top, and the first U in PLURIBUS has another inside its top. Tony Russo submitted the variety. Crawford lists it as CDDR-001. Wexler notes that it was first listed as WDDR-004. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
