Discovered by Brian A. Ribar, the 1957 WDDO-014 is a proof Jefferson Nickel exhibiting Class II Distorted Hub Doubling. Wexler Variety ID: 1957 WDDO-014 Proof. Very close doubling shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, where the secondary hub impression created subtle but measurable extra thickness on the motto. Class II doubling results from a distorted hub that developed a slight warp, transferring a marginally shifted impression during die-sinking and producing the tight spread characteristic of this class. Die markers provide attribution diagnostics: the obverse shows a circular die scratch on Jefferson's queue (the tied-back hair), while the reverse bears a die scratch in the upper left of the small left window on Monticello. These fixed markers confirm the specific die pair and distinguish WDDO-014 from other cataloged doubled die obverses for the 1957 proof nickel.
