Description
Ninth in the doubled die reverse catalog for the 1957 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel, DDR-009 presents light spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM and AMERICA. Die markers UVC-961 and DMR-015 confirm the specific working die. The light intensity indicates a modest hub-to-die shift where the secondary impression displaced reverse lettering just enough to produce detectable thickening without clean image separation. Felix Schlag's reverse places E PLURIBUS UNUM along the architrave above Monticello's columns, while UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs beneath — the selective involvement of only AMERICA (omitting UNITED STATES OF) maps the displacement zone to the right portion of that inscription. The 1957 Jefferson Nickel was struck in copper-nickel composition (75% copper, 25% nickel) at the Philadelphia Mint during the post-war era. Examination under 7x to 10x magnification focused on E PLURIBUS UNUM and AMERICA will reveal the characteristic light spread.
