Documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-279 and DMR-008, this 1956 Roosevelt Silver Dime DDO-006 displays light extra thickness on LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the designer's initials JS from top to bottom — a distribution pattern indicating the hub displacement affected inscription elements across the full vertical span of the obverse die face. Three documented die stages chart the working die's service life: Stage A is early die state (EDS, unconfirmed), representing the die before significant wear accumulated; Stage B is mid-die-state (MDS) identified by a strong die scratch on the rim above the M in AMERICA on the reverse; and Stage C shows both obverse and reverse in late die state (LDS), documenting advanced wear and deterioration. The progression from EDS through MDS to LDS with the developing rim scratch provides collectors with a timeline for dating individual specimens within this die's production run.
