Description

Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling     "Best Of" Nickel Doubled Die VarietiesThis variety is actually a tripled die.  An extremely strong spread toward the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM where the spread is constant.  Strong doubling also shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FIVE CENTS, MONTICELLO and both sides of the building.  These spreads increase from left to right.  Close tripling is seen on the lower portions of UNUM and UNITED.

Die Markers

  • Obverse: None noted.
  • Reverse: Die scratch joins upper portions of U and S of PLURIBUS; diagonal die scratch between LL of MONTICELLO; another through second O of MONTICELLO.
