Description

A proof striking from Philadelphia, this 1955 Roosevelt Dime DDR-002 shows light hub doubling spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME on the reverse. The die progression under UVC-266 and DMR-004 tracks three stages: Stage A is unconfirmed at EDS, Stage B confirms both reverse and obverse at mid-die state (MDS), and Stage C is unconfirmed at LDS. The light spread across the full reverse legend and denomination means the secondary impressions are subtle, but the mirror-finish proof surface provides excellent contrast for detecting even modest doubling under proper lighting and magnification. Proof Roosevelt Dimes from 1955 were struck with specially prepared dies on polished planchets, and the careful die preparation for proof production makes doubled die varieties on these coins particularly notable. Collectors should examine both UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME for faint secondary lettering.
