1953 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-010

Description

1953-D WDDO-010 is a doubled die obverse on the 1953-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling shows on both sides of TRUST's first T, with more on TRUST's last T, GOD's G, the I of IN, and below LIBERTY's L. Obverse markers: gouges, or possibly further doubling, to the right of both the I and the N in LIBERTY; light concentric scratches running toward the rim from the tops of GOD's letters and from the UST of TRUST; a short scratch heading east from the 9, off the outside of its lower curve; a strong scratch running south under LIBERTY's L; and a short scratch heading SE from the eyelid. Reverse markers: a long, nearly horizontal scratch from the left wheat stalk to a point under CENT's C, touched by a gouge (dot) right of the stalk; vertical scratches right of CENT's E; a vertical scratch laid over diagonal scratches right of CENT's T; a series of diagonal scratches through the TES of STATES; and two parallel scratches left of AMERICA's last A.
