Description

1953-D WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1953-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A doubled eyelid sits south of the normal one. Obverse markers: a vertical scratch running from the chin up to the upper lip; a diagonal scratch right of the upper lip; a short horizontal scratch below WE; a crack heading NW from the back of the eyebrow and then curving west through the middle of the forehead, with a shorter horizontal crack NW of it; many concentric scratches through the ear; and a light diagonal scratch above LIBERTY's Y. Reverse markers: a diagonal scratch inside the upper part of ONE's O; a faded diagonal field scratch right of the lower part of ONE's E; a series of chips on the lower T of CENT; a diagonal scratch heading northeast from the upper left corner of UNITED's N; and light diagonal scratches linking UNITED's U with the O of OF.
