1953 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1953-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1953-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows east of the normal one. Obverse markers: a vertical scratch between the 9 and 5 of the date; a light diagonal scratch heading northeast from the hair below GOD's O and D; vertical scratches below WE's E and SW of TRUST's first T; a series of vertical scratches to the right of the mouth and forehead; a gouge (dot) above the left edge of LIBERTY's E and another below its R; a long diagonal scratch through LIBERTY's T and below it; light concentric scratches around the ear and inside it; and a diagonal scratch heading SW from the ear's lower left edge. Reverse markers: a small gouge (dot) among the upper right wheat lines; a faded clash line right of the lower part of CENT's C; chips on the top and bottom of CENT's T; a diagonal scratch heading SE from the lower part of UNITED's N; and a small gouge on the lower right curve of STATES' last S.
