1953 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1953-D WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1953-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling shows to the south on the IBER of LIBERTY. Obverse markers: a gouge (dot) between the top of IN's N and GOD's G; a series of faded diagonal scratches under GOD's D; a series of four diagonal scratches under TRUST's R and U; a scratch heading northeast from the lower part of TRUST's U; and, at the mouth, a scratch running south from the upper lip and two diagonal scratches heading northeast from the lower lip. Reverse markers: a series of vertical scratches through the E of E PLURIBUS and the left wheat tip; a gouge (dot) southeast of UNUM's second U; light diagonal scratches left of the top of CENT's T; and diagonal scratches running between the tops of UNITED's U and N and the lower part of CENT's C. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-V-CW and Coppercoins as 1953D-1DO-001.
