1950-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003

Description

Medium spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM combined with light spread on the left eagle wings makes the 1950-D Franklin Half Dollar DDR-003 a variety with multiple identification points on John R. Sinnock's reverse design. Attributed by VarietyVista as UVC-038 with die marriage DMR-004, this variety progresses through three die states: EDS unconfirmed, Stage B displaying a die scratch running east through the C of AMERICA at mid die state, and Stage C showing both obverse and reverse at late die state. The reverse die variant is documented as transitioning between RDV-001b and RDV-001a. The 1950-D Franklin Half Dollar was an early Denver Mint issue in a series that ran only from 1948 to 1963, and the combination of motto doubling with wing spread provides collectors a variety carrying both lettering and design element indicators. The die scratch through C of AMERICA in Stage B serves as a useful die state marker for attribution.
