1950-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team, the 1950-D WDDO-004 Lincoln Wheat Cent presents LIBERTY spread to the north — directional hub doubling where the secondary impression shifted upward, pushing letter contours northward and creating visible extra thickness above the primary lettering. Two die-specific markers cement the attribution: a die scratch running south-southeast from Y in LIBERTY, and die scratches south from the underside of Lincoln's chin. These scratches are independent of the hub doubling and serve as fingerprint-level diagnostics for this specific die, since doubled LIBERTY alone could potentially be confused with other varieties. The combination of northward LIBERTY doubling, the SSE scratch from Y, and the chin scratches provides three-point attribution confirmation. The 1950-D was a Denver Mint issue during the post-war economic boom. Brenner's Lincoln portrait was in its forty-second year, struck on bronze at 19mm. Examine LIBERTY for northward spread, then locate the die scratch SSE from Y and the scratches south from Lincoln's chin to confirm this Wexler attribution.
