1949 Franklin Half Dollar - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1949 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1949 Franklin half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. UNITED and HALF DOLLAR show a close spread toward the center. The obverse is the doubled die 1949 WDDO-001, with a very close spread toward the center on LIBERTY and TRUST. Its markers are SW/NE scratches through the US of TRUST, horizontal scratches over the E in WE, and a die break on the front of the bust under the date's 1. On the reverse, a crack leaves the left bell support heading SSW, passes WE's E at its lower right and reaches the R in PLURIBUS. DOLLAR's second L has a small gouge over the right part of its horizontal bar. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
