Description

D/D North Die Markers: Obverse: Stage A: A die chip (dot) is present left of the lower first 9 in the date. A SW to NE oriented die scratch connects the lower left edge of the 4 in the date with the upper right edge of the mint mark. A series of WSW to ENE oriented die scratches run between the lower front of Lincoln’s bust and the mint mark. A series of concentric die scratches show in the field to the right of Lincoln's mouth. Numerous E-W oriented die scratches show at the rim above GOD and left of the W in WE. A long die scratch runs SSE from the upper right edge of the S in TRUST. Stage B: Die chip left of the 9 is still visible. Die chip on the forehead above the eye. Die chip in the field right of the brow. Diagonal die scratches run through the G and O of GOD. Die scratch running NE from the top of the head ends near the bottom of the O of GOD. Die scratch runs N/S in front of the brow. Small die chip shows between the lips. Reverse: Stage A: A series of die scratches run south from the E in E PLURIBUS. A series of die gouges (dots) show around the E in ONE. A wavy die gouge or struck through fragment shows to the left of the upper E in CENT. Numerous mostly vertically oriented die scratches show in the field to the right of the T in CENT. A series of NNW to SSE oriented die scratches run though the letters UN in UNITED. Concentric die scratches run through and below the letters CA in AMERICA.
