1945 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1945-S WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1945-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows just below the normal one. The obverse also has a repunched mint mark, an S/S South that the Wexler RPM Files carry as 1945-S 1¢ WRPM-006. Obverse Stage A: north-south scratches at the neck and in the field behind it; north-south scratches above LIBERTY's TY; and a scratch in Lincoln's nostril. On Obverse Stage B a thin crack runs from the right edge of the lower 4, through the 5, and on east to the rim, and a gouge lies to the lower left of the W in WE. Obverse Stage C matches Stage B. Reverse Stage A: chips on the left edge of OF's F and beside the right wheat stalk, on its right. Reverse Stage B is a second reverse, with north-south scratches over most of the field; a strong scratch left of the T in CENT; a scratch left of the U in UNITED; a north-south scratch from ONE's N to CENT's N; and north-south scratches within CENT's C. Reverse Stage C has a small scratch on the bottom edge of the tail of the left wheat stalk. Albert B. Raddi submitted Stage A, James C. Moreland Stage B, and Lloyd Hanson Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references.
