1945-S Doubled Die Reverse DDR-007
Error
Description
Seventh cataloged doubled die reverse for the 1945-S Jefferson Nickel in wartime silver composition, DDR-007 shows a light spread on E PLURIBUS. VarietyVista records this under UVC-487 and DMR-037, with Stage B documenting a light die crack across the upper hair at Mid-Die State. The reverse is also listed as RPM-034, meaning the large S mintmark above Monticello's dome was punched more than once, creating visible overlapping impressions. San Francisco's 1945-S wartime nickels were struck in the 35% silver, 56% copper, 9% manganese alloy mandated from late 1942 through 1945, with the oversized S above the dome identifying both the facility and non-standard composition. Schlag's obverse and Monticello reverse appeared on 21.2mm planchets. Stage B's die crack across the upper hair provides a secondary attribution marker: specimens without it represent an earlier stage, while more extensive cracking indicates later stages. Examine E PLURIBUS for the light doubled spread, check the upper hair for the crack, and verify the large S mintmark for RPM-034 repunching.
