1945 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-006

Description

A combination variety pairing a doubled die obverse with a repunched mintmark, this 1945-P Jefferson Nickel was struck in wartime silver alloy (56% Cu, 35% Ag, 9% Mn) — the special composition from 1942 to 1945 that placed a large P, D, or S above Monticello. The obverse shows Class V pivoted hub doubling, a counterclockwise spread from a pivot at approximately 3 o'clock on IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse is cross-referenced as WRPM-031, P/P East — a repunched large P displaced eastward. Obverse markers include a small die gouge inside U of TRUST and a die scratch south from the bottom right of W in WE.
