Master die doubling shows on the underside of the nose and on Washington’s lower ear.Die Markers: Obverse: A die scratch runs ESE from the lower right of the vertical bar of the L in LIBERTY. A die gouge curves south from the center left of the one in the date. Reverse: The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die files as 1944 25¢ WDDR-001. A CW spread from a pivot at about 4:00 shows on UNITED STATES OF, QUARTER DOLLAR, and slightly on EPU. • Discovered by John A. Wexler Cross References: CONECA: MD-1-O-IV+VII Comments: Since this doubling traces all the way back to the master die, all 1944 dated quarters from all three Mints will show this doubling. Consequently there should be no premium value added to these quarters if they just display the master die doubling.
