Another southward D/D repunching for the 1944-D Mercury Dime, RPM-004 shares its direction with RPM-002 but represents a distinct working die with different secondary markers. When two varieties carry the same direction for the same date, separation depends on die-specific diagnostics: exact degree of southward separation, die scratches, polish lines, and features unique to each individual die. RPM-004's designation as the fourth variety places it in a short but meaningful catalog, each entry documenting a separate instance where a Denver technician's punch deviated from the intended position.
