The die stage documentation outlines three progression points: Stage A at Early Die State (unconfirmed), Stage B where the reverse reaches Mid Die State characterized by a heavy die scratch running through the letters WE — a bold marker that provides immediate visual confirmation at this stage — and Stage C where both the reverse and obverse have reached Late Die State, representing the terminal phase of the die pair's service life. The progression from EDS through MDS to LDS, with the heavy WE scratch emerging at Stage B, gives collectors a built-in dating mechanism for specimens struck from this die marriage.
