1942 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-002

Description

Cross-referenced as Cherrypickers FS-801, the 1942 Philadelphia Mint Washington Quarter DDR-002 displays very strong spread across STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, the plume, QUARTER DOLLAR, wing tips, stems, right leaves, and the rightmost talon. Struck in 90% silver, this wartime quarter carries one of the most extensive doubling footprints documented for the series. Cataloged as UVC-0239 and DMR-016, die stage progression shows three stages: Stage A has both reverse and obverse at early-mid die state. Stage B advances to MDS with a die crack through US of PLURIBUS extending to the wing, a die crack down the eagle's right wing, and the obverse reaching MDS. Stage C reaches LDS with the crack extending from URIBUS to the wing and the obverse also at LDS. The FS-801 Cherrypickers designation confirms this as a recognized guide-book variety sought by Washington Quarter specialists.
