Description

A proof Lincoln Wheat Cent variety cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-1489 with die marriage reference DMR-019, the 1941 DDO-017 exhibits very light doubling manifesting as an extra horizontal bar above the right side of the last T in TRUST. This subtle feature connects to a broader hub variety distinction: the Full T over Broken T Hub designation indicates this die was produced using the Full T hub variant impressed over a die that had previously received an impression from the Broken T hub. The "Full T" and "Broken T" hub types are distinguished by whether the lower left serif of the T in TRUST is complete or truncated, and transition-era dies occasionally received impressions from both hub types, creating hybrid varieties with characteristics of each. Three die states are documented: Stage A in early die state is unconfirmed, Stage B shows mid-die-state characteristics on both obverse and reverse, and Stage C in late die state remains unconfirmed, suggesting that specimens in the terminal die stages have not yet been examined. Proof Wheat Cent collectors prize hub transition varieties because they illuminate the die-making process and the Mint's gradual shift between hub designs during the early 1940s.
