Description
1940-S WDDO-009 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940-S Mercury dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. Very minor doubling appears on the date. On the obverse, a short north-south die scratch crosses the G in GOD; there is also a die crack running from the bonnet out to the rim, left of the T in LIBERTY. On the reverse, strong die clash marks cross the left side of the olive leaves, and a SSW/NNE scratch passes through the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM. Thomas McGowan submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
