1940 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

1940 WDDO-008 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The 4 and 0 of the date and the E of WE show an extremely close spread toward the rim. Obverse: a small gouge (dot) under the date's 4; a series of light diagonal scratches running into the field below the chin; a curved scratch from the upper hair, below and between GOD's OD; a concentric scratch at the rim right of TRUST's last T; and a light crack above and right of the VDB. Reverse: dots left of the E in E PLURIBUS, right of the U in UNUM, and inside the opening of CENT's C, and a gouge on the lower curve of that C. John A. Wexler submitted the variety.
