Description
The 1940 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-004 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1940 Lincoln Wheat Cent, part of the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series. Die markers: UVC-2515 DMR-018 Stage A: Obverse is EMDS Reverse is LISTED as DDR-014 – EMDS Die gouge over LU of PLURIBUS Stage B: Die crack through V. D. B. – MDS Die crack on lower lapel Die crack in lower Right wheat grains – MDS Stage C: LDS (unconfirmed). Reverse is LISTED as DDR-014.
