Description
The 1940-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse (DDR) variety, where die hubbing misalignment produced visible doubling on the reverse design. This variety was discovered on the 1940 (D) Jefferson Nickel, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Die markers: Obverse: A die gouge (dot) in Jefferson's hair; die scratches across the top of his forehead. Reverse: Two die dots, one below and the other to the lower right of the small left window; small die dot inside lower loop of first S of STATES.
