Cataloged as Wexler Variety ID 1940-D 10¢ WDDO-004, this 1940 Denver Mint Mercury Dime is a notable combination variety with three die errors on a single coin. A Class II spread towards the center shows on the date. The reverse is also a doubled die listed as 1940-D 10¢ WDDR-001, with doubling visible on STATES OF, the top of the axe, the top of the fasces, and the upper right leaves. Additionally, the reverse carries a repunched mintmark listed as 1940-D 10¢ WRPM-005, showing D/D North. A die scratch runs SSE from the right side of the center bands. Struck in 90% silver at the Denver Mint, this Mercury Dime features Adolph Weinman's iconic Winged Liberty Head design, produced from 1916 to 1945.
