Description

The 1939-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1939 (D) Jefferson Nickel - Reverse of 1938, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Die markers: Obverse: Die scratch ESE from lower left of E of LIBERTY; die scratch from upper half of T to Y of LIBERTY; circular die scratches through Jefferson's hair and forehead. Reverse: Short diagonal die scratch just southeast of C of MONTICELLO.  Type I steps.
