Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista with die tracking code UVC-0073 and die marker reference DMR-002, this 1937-S Washington Silver Quarter DDO-001 presents light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, and the date, with an apparent triple impression visible on the TRU of TRUST — suggesting three separate hub impressions were received during the die manufacturing process, with at least two of them displaced relative to the first. The tripling on TRU is the most visually prominent feature, as three overlapping letter images create more complex and detectable displacement than simple doubling. Three documented die stages chart the working die's service life: Stage A shows both the obverse and reverse in early die state (EDS), with the tripled TRU at maximum definition; Stage B advances to mid-die-state (MDS) with a light die crack developing across the bust and another light die crack extending across the forehead into the hair on the obverse, while the reverse is also in MDS; Stage C reaches late die state (LDS), unconfirmed. The 1937-S Washington Quarter was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 90% silver composition (90% silver, 10% copper), weighing 6.25 grams with a diameter of 24.26 mm.
