1937 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1937-S WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1937-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM) and the dots show extra thickness, with light thickening at the tops of the wheat ears. Obverse Stage A has a staggered east-west crack in the hair and a crack over the designer's initials. Stage B is a second, new obverse die, with a chip (dot) behind the lower part of the head, in the field, and a crack on the lower right of the bust. Reverse Stage A shows a light crack along the right wheat grains on their lower right side and a chip (dot) to the right of the second T in STATES, low on the letter. On Stage B, E PLURIBUS UNUM shows die deterioration, the crack on the right grains is heavier, a crack runs from the E of ONE to PLURIBUS' second U, cracks mark the upper left and lower right sides of the left wheat grains, and cracks also mark the upper and lower right wheat. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-R-VI; the Coppercoins number is 1937S-1DR-002.
