1935 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1935 WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1935 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date and LIBERTY show extra thickness. Obverse Stage A has a series of short scratches below the eyelid. On Stage B those have been abraded away, and a crack loops from the back of the bust over V.D.B., curving back to the bust's base and on into the field. Reverse Stage A: a scratch heading SW from STATES' second S, off the left side of its outer loop, to the lower right of the E's horizontal bar; a small gouge (dot) above that second S; and a NE/SW scratch through the center of the E's bottom horizontal bar. On Stage B the Stage A markers are gone, and a north-south crack runs through the middle of the right wheat ear. Timothy J. Wissert submitted Stage A and Russ LeBeau Stage B. CONECA lists it as 3-O-VI; the Coppercoins number is 1935P-1DO-002. Wexler credits James C. Moreland with the original discovery.
