1935-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

The 1935-D Buffalo Nickel RPM-003 is a D/D East repunched mintmark variety cataloged by VarietyVista under die tracking codes UVC-144 and DMR-004. The first mintmark punch was placed and a second punch applied to the east, leaving the displaced primary impression visible to the west. Three die stages are recorded: Stage A (EDS, unconfirmed), Stage B (MDS, confirmed on both obverse and reverse), and Stage C (LDS, unconfirmed). The 1935-D Buffalo Nickel was struck at the Denver Mint in the penultimate decade of the series. By 1935 mintages had partially recovered from Depression-era lows, and Denver-mint issues of this year are collectible in circulated grades with varieties commanding premiums for well-preserved die markers. Fraser's bison-and-profile design remained unchanged for its twenty-fifth year of production. Additional specimen photographs are requested to complete stage attribution for Stages A and C.
