1934 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1934 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1934 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Both wheat ears and stems are thickened, and E PLURIBUS UNUM (EPU) and the dots slightly so. Obverse: a long curling scratch heads SW off GOD's D from its lower left; two scratches run SSE at the back of the nose, with a few small gouges at its bottom; a light crack crosses the bust's base just above the designer's initials; and a series of SW-to-NE scratches runs through the hair on the back of Lincoln's head. Reverse: very short north-south scratches at the top and bottom of CENT's C; a gouge (dot) in the field south of AMERICA's I; two short scratches extending SW from PLURIBUS's first U on its left side; and a scratch running east from the middle of AMERICA's C to the second A. James C. Moreland submitted the variety (upgraded by Dr. Gerald Fishman). CONECA lists it as 4-R-VI; the Coppercoins number is 1934P-1DR-005.
