1934-D VRPM VRPM-003

Description

The 1934-D Buffalo Nickel VRPM-003 is a repunched mintmark variety catalogued in the VarietyVista registry. Buffalo Nickels were struck from 1913 through 1938 in 75% copper and 25% nickel, designed by James Earle Fraser. The primary attribution feature is a D/D North repunch — the mintmark punch first landed north of its final position before being corrected. Under magnification a secondary D impression is visible above the primary mintmark. This die is classified MMS-002 (large mintmark). The UVC and DMR codes for this variety are not yet officially assigned. Die progression covers three stages: Stage A is an early die state (unconfirmed). Stage B at early-mid die state (EMDS) exhibits two die clashes — one through the E PLURIBUS UNUM legend and one beneath the chin on the obverse — the most diagnostically useful features for attribution. Stage C is a late die state (unconfirmed). Cherrypickers should focus on the northward repunch shadow visible beneath the mintmark serif, then confirm with the Stage B clash marks through UNUM when present.
