1928 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1928 WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1928 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling appears as an extra eyelid north of the primary eyelid. Obverse: a gouge right of the I in IN; scratches leaving the W of WE at its left edge and running west to a point above the G of GOD; a series of concentric scratches between the rim and the tops of ST in TRUST, with similar concentric scratches below the VDB initials; a light crack on the back of the bust truncation; patches of die abrasion at Lincoln's temple; and light scratches running NE from RTY of LIBERTY. Reverse: a light gouge on the R of PLURIBUS; a scratch running SE from the B of PLURIBUS; a small gouge (dot) in the field south of the M's right arm in UNUM; a series of north-south scratches passing through the O of OF, in its opening, and on into the N of UNITED; and a series of faded scratches running south from the right wheat stalk, off its lower outer edge.
