1927-P VAM-2
ErrorDescription
VAM-2 on the 1927 Peace Dollar is a Top 50 Peace Dollar VAM — one of the most significant and sought-after varieties in the entire Peace Dollar series — discovered by Jeff Oxman in October 1999. The variety is catalogued as 2, obverse II 2, reverse B2a, rarity I-3 R-5, with the attribution: Doubled Motto. An R-5 rarity rating places the known population at approximately 13 to 30 examples, reinforcing its elite status. The motto doubling is specific: OD WE of IN GOD WE TRUST shows doubling on the right side of those letters, TRVS of TRVST — note that the Peace Dollar uses the archaic spelling TRVST rather than TRUST — shows slight doubling on the right side, and the designer's initials show doubling to the lower right and right side. The obverse also shows slight doubling on the designer's initials. The 1927 Peace Dollar was struck in 90% silver at the Philadelphia Mint. Top 50 designation, R-5 rarity, and discovery by a leading VAM researcher make this one of the premier Peace Dollar varieties. Cross-reference: VAM-2, Top 50 Peace Dollar, I-3 R-5.
