Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1927 Peace Dollar is part of the Peace Dollars 1921-1935 series. With a mintage of 848,000, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 28% of total production. The obverse features a youthful Liberty facing left wearing a radiate crown, designed after sculptor Anthony de Francisci's wife Teresa and the reverse displays a bald eagle perched on a rock above the word PEACE, with rays of sunlight. The 1927-D with a mintage of 1,268,900 is a semi-key date. The 1927-S is similarly scarce in uncirculated condition. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $88 to $2.0K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7370.
