Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1926 1-cent WDDO-004, this Lincoln Wheat Cent displays the classic eyelid doubling that makes Lincoln portrait varieties among the most recognizable in U.S. numismatics. An extra eyelid shows just below the main eyelid on Victor David Brenner's obverse, where hub misalignment created a secondary contour giving Lincoln the appearance of a pronounced lower eyelid. This eyelid doubling is distinct from the southward spread seen on later-date Lincoln Cents — here, the extra eyelid manifests as a discrete secondary line rather than broad directional displacement. A useful die marker accompanies the variety: a light die scratch runs southwest-to-northeast above the 6 in the date, providing an independent confirmation checkpoint. The 1926 Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in bronze composition (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc) at 3.11 grams. No cross-references beyond the Wexler designation are known.
