1924-S VAM-1C1

Description

Identified by a thin die scratch at the top left of T in LIBERTY, the 1924-S VAM-1C1 documents a San Francisco Peace Dollar with a subtle but diagnostic obverse die preparation artifact. The scratch at the top left corner of T provides a precise locational reference — a fine raised line visible under magnification from a tool mark incised into the die surface during manufacture. Die scratches are incuse on the die and raised on the coin, making them permanent features of every coin struck from that die regardless of subsequent wear. Community observations note that some specimens also show a collar clash on the reverse — an additional feature occurring when the die strikes the collar ring rather than a planchet, transferring a partial impression. The collar clash is not universal and may represent a later die state or specific production run. The 1924-S was struck at San Francisco in 90% silver at 38.1mm. De Francisci's obverse Liberty, with her radiant crown and IN GOD WE TRVST, was in the design's fourth year.
