Description

=1921-D VAM-1AH Die Break 1st S in STATES to Rim= Discovered by Jim Hart, October 2001 1AH (revised) IV 1 · D2a (Die Break First S in STATES to Rim, Scribbling Die Scratches) (189) Reverse D2a – Heavy die cracks thru tops of STATES with small die break on left side of top serif in first S in STATES. Heavy die crack from first S in STATES up to left to rim and another die crack from back of first S to wing tip up to rim to form sunken displaced coin area of die break. Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle's right leg and between eagle's left wing and body. ''Die marker'' - Single horizontal die polishing line at top left inside of wreath bow. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # VAM 1AH has a small break filling the upper serif on the first S in STATES. Unique cracks can be seen coming off the left side of the S and from the top of the S out to the denticles. A horizontal crack also runs from the S to the T. On nice later state examples, the field area to the left of the S is actually raised above the rest of the coin’s field. # Early die stages attributable from scribbling scratches high up onto the lower part of the eagle's breast. # Small dot between the F and left wing has been found on both EDS and LDS coins.
