Description
The 1917 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck at the San Francisco Mint as a cent in the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 32,620,000 cents dated 1917. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right, the first real person depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT, symbolizing American agriculture. Minted during and after World War I, as America emerged as a global power and experienced the prosperity of the Roaring Twenties. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $207 depending on grade and condition.
