A cent from the Denver Mint, the 1917 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent belongs to the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series. The Denver Mint struck 55,120,000 cents dated 1917. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right, the first real person depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT, symbolizing American agriculture. Minted during and after World War I, as America emerged as a global power and experienced the prosperity of the Roaring Twenties. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906.
