1916 Typical Die Clash TDC-5C-1916-01

Description

TDC-5c-1916-01 This die clash is known as the “extra” feathers or “two and a half feather” variety for the die clash mark that is seen to the right of the actual feathers. The die clash marks are seen on both the obverse and reverse dies and are unabraded. There is a small offset of positioning (approximately 10 %) of the dies when they clashed. This coin is courtesy of Jim Kuhl of Florida. The first picture shows the “extra” feathers, which are a clash mark left by the design elements in the buffalo’s neck. Also seen is the clash mark left by the outline of the buffalo’s neck. The second picture shadows the clash mark made by the back of the left back leg of the buffalo. The last picture shows the clash mark made by the lower jaw line and neck of indian underneath PLURIBUS UNUM. While no clash marks were seen on the obverse die in this area, this may be due to the die being in a VLDS state. Heavy metal flow lines (caused by die deterioration) are seen on all parts of both the obverse and reverse die.
